The sheets rustled and his hand hit the wall hard. Jayne started out of bed, dripping with sweat and breathing like he had just chased down a runaway horse. He took deep breaths thankful he was on Serenity. He was very thankful he didn't have to share a room. Didn't have to explain nightmares to someone.
The nightmares had gotten worse after that gorram mudder jumped in front of that bullet.
Anger seeped in when he thought of it. Stupid kid, believed in him. In Jayne. Jayne never saw himself a hero. Don't have a use in the 'verse. You just do the job, get the pay, take care of your family and move on. That was Jayne's life - the mudder had given him a level up from that. Gave him something to think about and that mudder was a guh jun duh hwoon dahn.
His face was hot, burning now. He needed to get the moment out of his mind before it made him crazy. Cold, icy, resolve started to take over, filling the cracks in his soul, cooling the anger and letting him drift back into a deep black void. He failed to notice the blood now drying across his knuckles.
