No Rest for the Wicked

They tell him repeatedly how evil he is: they should know.

Words of accusation, hurt and torment whirl around him, suffusing the air. Others whisper sweet nastinesses in his ear. They anger quickly, tell him what he already knows; he’ll never be good or pure enough—never be what she needs.

Curling tightly, knees hugged against his chest, hands covering his ears in a vain attempt to block their words, he hums a quiet lullaby. Eyes screwed tightly closed, he rocks gently, trying not to see the twisted, bitter face of the woman who used to sing it to him.

Hi,

I really liked this; as Gabrielle says above it is really affecting. Spike really loved his mom and having her in his head like that was probably a bigger mindf*** than having Buffy there.

Oh, nice. Very evocative and creepy. It's a shame they never had the first being his mum in the actual show.

I kinda did wonder why they never had the first portray his mother in the show. Having her appear to torment him in the basement makes perfect sense though. Great drabble!

I love to read different points of when writers get into the mind of character. This is a perfect example of how it makes you feel something for that character, feel their pain and lonlieness. It makes you want to hold them, gently stroke their hair and tell them that everything is going to be fine. I am here.

You know that kind of stuff and yes i rambled
