“Tara?”
She shoved the letter into her bag, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
“Your daddy told me you’re going to Hamilton. You excited?”
“Uh, sure Beth, it seems like… a good school.”
Beth snorted, playing with a bottle of perfume on Tara’s dresser. “Sure, if you can’t get into a real school. I’m amazed they’re even letting you go what with your… condition and all.”
As Beth left the room, Tara bit her lip, tracing the envelope she had hidden for months.
Sunnydale was a real school. And even if it wasn’t, anything was better than home.
