A/N: First attempt at drabble. ETA because of my complete stupidity. Enormous thanks toubiquirk for a wonderful beta job, and apologies for not putting this in first time round.
He was walking away from me.
“Ready to get off this heap, back to a civilized life?”
I had to stop him walking.
“I, uh…”
He turned. Now I had the chance. I could open the door to my future, or I could slam it, lock it and lose the key without even trying.
I trained to please them, not myself. Never the self, only the client. What did I really want? Did I really want him?
He can see a lie at forty paces. The truth would be the only thing to show him.
“I don’t know.”
“Good answer.”
