Character: Spike's Mom
Anne applauded encouragingly as her son finished reading his poem. To be honest, it was not very good, but, like everything her sweet William did, it was heartfelt. She just hoped his Cecily appreciated that. Anne hoped she would look past the forced rhymes and awkward phrasing and see the sentiment behind them. William was such a delicate soul; one rejection could shatter him. He stuttered and blushed when she enquired about his prospects, but his mother was encouraged. She was dying, but, with Cecily, maybe now her William would have someone to look after him when she was gone.
