Prompt: 099 How I Met Your Mother
Characters/Pairing: Spike/Buffy
A/N:set four years after the shanshu
"Daddy, tell me a story."
He scooped up the little girl and sat her on his lap. "What kind of story, luv?"
She thought for a moment before she spoke. "Tell me a story about how you met Mommy."
He swallowed the lump of fear that had risen in his throat. He wasn't ready. There should have been more time to prepare for that question. Because he wasn't about to tell her the truth. That her father had been a monster. So then, what was he supposed to tell her? And shouldn't she be more interested in hearing about Cinderella, anyway? After all she was only four years old. Perhaps he could get her attention onto something else. Kids were notorious for their short attention spans. But at the expectant look on her little face, he knew there was no way he was going to disappoint his daughter. She wanted a story; she'd get a story.
"Let's see now. Once upon a time in a sunny town."
"Daddy you're supposed to say 'in a land far, far away'"
"Are you tellin' the story, then?"
Her golden curls bounced as she shook her head and giggled. "No, Daddy."
"Right. Once upon a time in a sunny town. There lived a beautiful girl. And the first time that the handsome mo..man saw her he knew that his life was never going to be the same. He spent days just watching her. Wherever she went he was there. Every move she made he committed to memory. Until one day he threw caution to the wind and asked her to meet him."
"And did she?"
He smiled indulgently and kissed the top of her head before he continued with the story. "Well, of course she met him. Now it had been a long time since the handsome man had spent time with such a beautiful girl. He was nervous and very shy. But that quickly changed. They talked for hours and hours. And both of them knew that what they had was very special. After dating for a few years the beautiful girl and the handsome man got married."
The little girl couldn't contain her excitement any longer. "What happened then, Daddy?"
Spike hugged his little girl close to him. "What do you think happened, luv? They lived Happily Ever After of course."
Buffy watched from the doorway in silence as their precious daughter clapped her hands together in delight.
Happily Ever After, now that was the best kind of story.-
