145 Ficlet - Dolce vita (River)

Falling asleep now.
To sleep perchance to dream. But dreaming is not what dead things do, and we are to be dead things now. So there is no chance of dreaming. There is nothing to get in the way of the real life and death around us.
We will not die. Others will die today, while we lie still in white nothingness.
An old woman who has passed her time of life, and smiles as she goes. A baby that never breathed. A young girl who cries and cries as life slips through her grasp, endless and ending. Men who are doing their everyday job will bleed and bleed at the turn of a switch, and never know where they are going or why.
Others on the edge of death will live while we almost die. Surgeons and medicines and nurses bring healing; beating nature into giving up lives. Simon will save a man. The Captain will give our betrayer the savour of death, and life will be sweeter because of it.
Then Jayne will share his apples. They look so alive. But they are decaying already. Just like us.
