Word Count: 235
Prompt: 147(July 11th Cheer Up the Lonely Day)
Characters/Pairing: Giles/Anya
Giles watched as Anya flitted around his apartment. She grabbed plates from the cupboard and glasses from the top shelf. While she worked she kept up a running commentary on the trials of having had gone out with one Xander Harris. As he listened to Anya go on and on he looked longingly towards his favorite easy chair. He’d looked forward all day to reading the codex the Watcher’s Council had finally had the decency to send him.
But Anya being Anya didn't notice and prattled on.
Finally, Giles sighed and cleaned his glasses. "Anya, why are you here?"
Anya gave him a look as if he should have already known the answer to that question. "It's July 11th isn't it?"
"Yes." The 'so' was left hanging between them.
"Well, it's Cheer Up the Lonely Day." She waved her basket in front of him. "And I'm here to cheer you up."
"But I'm not lone...." What was the point in pretending? "What's in the basket?"
"Bangers and mash." By the look on Giles' face she knew he didn't appreciate the humor. "I'm just kidding. I have finger sandwiches, potato chips, chocolate cake, a soft drink for me and Earl Grey tea for you"
A soft smile played at the corners of Giles' mouth as he helped her to finish setting the table. Tea and finger sandwiches? Maybe having Anya around wasn't so bad after all.
