Thank you for such a long and juicy comment! I had not known about that reaction in jump survivors, but it makes so much sense, doesn't it? Adrenaline can really jump-start a change in perspective. I felt Buffy must have done a lot of processing over that summer, especially since she seemed so much better adjusted after the hiatus.
Buffy never confronted Spike about the AR and I believe the writers dropped the ball on that, but I can fanwank it by thinking she confronted him in her own mind.
