HUMAN CHARACTERS OF COLOR!!
THIS THEME WITH START WITH PROMPT 164 ON THURSDAY EVENING
Probably one of the most underrated groups not only in fandom but in television, literature, and media in general. So this month, we're going to be celebrating these very important characters. Each week we will feature one character from BTVS, one from ATS, and one from either Firefly or Dollhouse. Entries should focus on the featured character. We will be providing screencaps so I'm hoping we can get our icon and fanart entries up.
We are defining characters of color as characters who are coded that way. For instance, while an actor may be non-white, the character might be coded as white. Just keep that in mind when suggesting characters and doing the Free For All.
Anyone using Nikki Wood as inspiration this month will get a special award.
So have fun and start thinking of your entries. Let's flood the fandom with amazing works focused on these characters!
ETA: I clarified to make things a little easier. First, this month will be just for human characters of color. I think maybe we need to have a demon month at some point :)
Second, in terms of "coded as white", the best example I can think of is Cordelia. She is coded as very WASP-y, rich white girl. That means her character reads as white. Whereas Charisma Carpenter is mixed race with some Hispanic and Native American. If the character onscreen seems "white" or is portrayed as "white", then the ethnicity of the actor doesn't count. If you aren't sure if a character is considered non-white, please just reply to this post or any prompt post.
I will try to find some more meta or some good websites that have more specific examples of coding of fictional characters.
What characters of color do you want to see featured this month?
