My name is Book, and I have a book. The Book. A much more important Book than me.
It’s not his name, obviously. Whoever gets named so perfectly first time around?
(Not perfect for the man who went before. A mockery.)
Shepherds get to pick their own names. So his is Book, now.
No more metal-grey urban-tech Cortex. Instead, the ghost of dead trees, wrapped in cow hide, imprinted with soot, walnut oil and turpentine. Unnatural in its way, but rooted in the verse.
Like this new Book.
