She was dying and there was nothing he could do to stop it.

Wesley held her in his arms, the woman he loved, and prayed to every god he could think of to help save her life.

He had wanted her for so long, had waited for her to return his feelings for such a long time. It didn't quite seem fair that all he would get were moments. Mere moments out of a lifetime to be with her. And now after so short a time he sat watching helplessly as her life slipped away. From him.

He wanted to share so many things with her. So many things he wanted, no he needed to say to her. But there wasn’t time. There would never be time. Only one thing was important. He needed to make sure that she knew how very much she meant to him.

"I love you. I will always love you." His voice was husky with tears as he gently leaned down and kissed the top of her head. "But not till death do us part. We won't be parted for long. I will follow you as soon as I can."

He wasn't sure if she heard him before she breathed her last but he needed to have it said. Because no matter what, it was one promise he was prepared to keep.
