Cordelia stood up and looked at the picnic rug that was laid out across the lobby floor. Satisfied that they had everything they needed, she called out to the guys, “Ok, we’re ready; you can bring Connor in now.”

“Good lord,” Wesley commented as Fred helped Angel strap Connor into his bouncer, “How much food are you expecting us to eat?”

“It’s Connor’s first picnic,” Cordelia explained as she started handing out paper plates “We wanted to make sure we had all the traditional picnic foods. We’ve got chicken, three types of salads, cold cuts, bread rolls.”

“Plus we have fresh fruit salad” Fred interrupted, “The good stuff not the stuff you get from the supermarket. And I asked for extra strawberries because I haven’t had strawberries in forever. There was this fruit in Pylea that looked like strawberries but they didn’t taste very nice.”

“The picap plant Freddles. Not something you really want to eat, although it is really good for cleaning leather.” Lorne said.

“Oh,” Fred replied with a grimace “That would explain the taste.”

“So Angel, have you explained to the little man what’s happening here?” Gunn said, drawing the conversation back to the picnic.

“No, right.” Angel cleared his throat, “So Connor, this is a picnic. Normally you’d have a picnic outside but your Daddy doesn’t do to well in the sun. Maybe we can have one outside one day, but at night.”

“We could have one in the courtyard.” Cordelia suggested.

“What about a barbeque?” Gunn added, “Some steaks, hot dogs, a bit of charcoal.”

“Not too much charcoal though.” Fred said as Cordelia nodded in agreement.

“Anyway,” Angel continued, “At a picnic you have lots of different types of food that everyone likes...” His voice trailed off as he looked for his lunch.

“Don’t worry, the thermos is full of blood.” Cordelia reassured him. She reached behind Gunn to grab the bottle bag, “Plus Connor’s lunch is right here.”

“See it’s just like a real picnic,” Fred smiled “Plus being inside we don’t have to worry about bugs.”

Which I for one am extremely grateful for. Mosquitoes really seem to like green skin.” Lorne added.

“And for later on, we’ve got games.” Gunn said.

“I don’t know, is that really a good idea with Connor?” Angel said nervously.

“We thought for a game we could just push one of Connor’s soft balls around, nothing too strenuous.” Wesley explained.

“That’s good. So who’s hungry?” Angel said smiling as he looked around the rug at his family.
