Prompt: 195, Dessert
Characters/Pairing: Gunn/Fred
"Close your eyes and open your mouth."
"Charles, I'm stuffed. I couldn't possibly..."
With a sheepish smile on his face, Gunn quickly interrupted. "It's just dessert. I thought that after all of the restaurant food you would like to try something homemade."
"Oh." She didn’t know why her mind had automatically went to sex. Fred turned a delicate shade of red before she did as he asked. Suddenly her mouth was full of the most mouth watering concoction she'd ever tasted. She moaned as the sweet taste of milk chocolate melted across her tongue. She quickly swallowed the remaining bite, opened her eyes and stared at Gunn. "I can't believe you really made these!"
A pained look crossed his face. "I'm more than just the muscle..."
This time it was Fred who interrupted. "I didn't mean it like that, Charles. I'm just surprised that's all." She reached into the plastic bowl, grabbed another and popped it into her mouth. "Where did you learn how to make these?"
Gunn stared at Fred. He had wanted so badly to impress her with his dessert making skills that it'd never occurred to him he might have to discuss where the recipe came from. Maybe if he said it real quick it wouldn’t sound as bad as it was. "I got it from a romance book. It had these dessert recipes in the back and I read one I thought you would like so I...”
“What book?” The thought of Charles buying a romance novel for any reason was just too good. She had to know which one it was.
At the look on Fred’s face he quickly added. “But I only bought it for the recipes." Damn! That sounded worse.
“Charles.”
“You’re not going to let it go are you?”
Fred shook her head. There was no way. She would keep asking him until he told her.
Gunn crossed his arms over his chest. “Fine! It was Dark Celebration. There are you happy now?”
Fred’s mouth hung open in shock. Of all the books he could have said she wasn’t expecting that one. Those books were filled with fighting the undead, sure they were romance novels of a kind but still vampires! She would have thought he had enough of the paranormal world working with Angel. “Christine Feehan? You bought one of her books?”
“I just bought it for the recipes.” He was quick to reiterate. “It wasn’t like I’d bought Jacques’, Gregori’s or even Lucian’s books.” The minute the words left his mouth he would have given everything he owned, including his fighting axe, to recall them but it was too late. Fred was already staring at him with a huge smile on her face.
If he hadn’t read the books how would he know the character’s names? She wanted to ask him which one was his favorite and why but at the worried look on his face Fred decided to let him off the hook. “It’s okay, Charles. I like her books too.”
He felt the tension leave his body for a minute before a horrible thought crossed his mind. The thought of Angel or Wesley finding out about it was more than he could take. They would never let him live it down. “Promise me, Fred that you won’t tell the guys. Please?”
“Don’t worry. It will be our little secret.”
