Prompt: 205(hours)

Have you ever noticed when things go horribly wrong time has a disagreeable habit of slowing down until the hours seem to drag by for an eternity?
The glass of scotch in his hand had long since been watered down by ice but he doesn't notice. All of his attention was still focused on the girl he had lost only hours ago. Tears filled his eyes and ran unchecked down his face. Had it really only been a few hours?
Death was her gift.
One of the first rules he had learned when he became a watcher was eventually a slayer dies. And he had known one day he would have to face the task of losing his. But after all the things she had lived through, he had allowed himself to believe his slayer would be different. That she would be the one to outlive the shortened lifetime of a slayer.
Death was her gift.
She didn't.
But not because a vampire had himself a real good day or a demon got lucky. That wouldn't have been enough to bring his slayer down. And then he finally understood, there was only one thing strong enough to make her leave the world.
Love.
With a sigh filled with sadness and regret, Giles raised the glass in his hand. "To you, Buffy. Thank you for saving the world. Again."
