Spike hesitated. He didn’t know why he was nervous, she was really the only one of the Scoobies who'd ever treated him like something more than a monster—had treated him like a man—so he was fairly sure she wouldn’t mind him visiting.

Steeling himself, he stepped forward slowly. “’lo, love. ‘m sorry I haven’t been to see you sooner, been out of town for a bit. I brought you these.” He laid the flowers down, a beautiful spray of wildflowers that reminded him of her—free of spirit and beautiful in a natural, uncultivated way. “Miss you, pet.”

Yeah, you didn't see a lot of interaction between the two on the show, but I love Tara teasing him during Buffy's birthday party and it showed that they did have a good enough relationship that she felt comfortable doing that. I am sure Spike would have liked the chance to say his goodbyes.
