"Mrs Morgan... your daughter is dead."

"Lilah, yes. I'm -"

"No, I'm... quite certain she didn't visit you yesterday."

"I'm... We... knew each other."

"I just wanted you to know that her death was... that she didn't... That she cared a great deal for you and... she will be missed."

"Lilah. Your daughter, you senile-"

"No, I don't want to talk to... Goodbye, Mrs Morgan. My condolences."

Oh god. That was powerful. I'd almost forgotten about Lilah's mom's condition... but I am just not getting the words out on how I feel about this piece... the fact that her own mother is so far gone that she can't remember.. And she really had no one else besides her mom and Wesley.

Thanks. Part of the reason I love Lilah is that as much as she likes to play the big bad bwa-ha-ha arch villain, we occasionally get these little glimpses of what kind of person she is behind that - and it's not a happy picture. And that scene with her talking to her senile mother on the phone is heartbreaking, since it's so completely at odds with what we expect from a supervillain...

Ouch. My grandfather was like that for awhile before he died. Conversations with him were kind of like that; difficult, painful and kind of frustrating. You've captured it well.

Thanks! This phone call, of course, is as much about Wesley himself trying to deal with his emotions as with trying to tell Lilah's mom.

Thanks! To me, as a... OK, not rabid, but mildly irate Wes/Lilah fan, his active non-dealing with Lilah's death really is one of the best bits of s4; he can't even admit to himself how he feels about her.

Loved it the first time, love it the second time, will love it a third time. It is just so powerful and such a fantastic look at Wesley and Lilah together and apart as characters. I can't remember what I said before about it but yeah, whatever I said before and more. LOL

Seriously, thanks. This is one of those stories I had bouncing around the plot bunny yard for ages, there were drafts that were 8-900 words and simply didn't work... then I cut it down to drabble size and presto.
