Yep, I managed a Merl ficlet too. This is one of those plug-the-plot-holes things.

Title: You Keep Me Hanging On
Author: Beer Good ([livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy)
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 200
Prompt: 003, Merl
Characters/Pairing (if any): Merl
Timeline: "Redefinition", after Angel's interrogation

Merl spun slowly.

He'd been hanging here for... well, he couldn't exactly check his watch, but long enough that all his blood would have gone to his head if he'd had any. He was cold, the rope was cutting into his wrists, and he was getting dizzy; so he didn't hear the approaching footsteps until his employer spoke up.

"My, my. Aren't we in an... elevated mood?"

"Very funny. You're funny." Snarking and toadying simultaneously while you're hanging upside down in a sewer isn't easy, but Merl did his best. "Little help here?"

"In a minute. How did your meeting with Angel go?"

"Oh, he bought it, man, hook line and sinker. I sent him right to Darla and Drusilla. He'll never know you set him up."

"Good."

"So what's the plan? Have Angel kill them for killing you?"

Holland Manners smiled. "Not quite, but... something like that, yes. Thanks for your help."

"That's cool, don't mention it, just get me down and we'll call it... hey! HEY! Don't leave me here!"

But Holland Manners faded into the shadows and again Merl was alone, spinning slowly over the pool of sewage.

He really, really, really hated working for dead people.

Great last line! I always wondered how Merl got down. Guess it wasn't Holland. Loved it!

I went so visual of this in my head, had me chuckling for sure. You almost feel sorry for Merl. You know, almost. Fantabulous job, as always.

Hehe, love the idea of a dead Holland Manners engineering that and then leaving poor Merl hanging in the sewer. Great ficlet.
