Newspaper rattled as Xander thrust the pet adoption section in Anya’s face. “But it’s adorable. With its little twitchy nose and the falling down ears. Doesn’t it say love me! Take me home! I’ll be yours and I’ll never ever pee on the carpet.”
“Get it away from me!” Anya shrieked.
“What?” He waved the paper. “It’s cute.”
“Nothing is cute when it’s a blur of black and white ink,” Anya intoned. “It’s a rabbit.”
Xander pulled the paper back and began to read, “left in a box in front of the humane society, Floppy loves attention, treats, and being brushed. Already housebroken.”
“And tastes good in stew.”
“Anya,” Xander gasped. “You wouldn’t eat Floppy would you?”
She grinned impishly. “Why not? I think you’re cute and I eat you.” Rising from the chair, she plucked the newspaper out of his hands. “Right?”
