He’d always known that the Amy girl would be useful. He could sense the desperation, the loneliness that lurked under the friendly surface. That desperation would draw others to her, like a magnet, others who in their innocence wouldn’t even know he existed. Because if magic and mayhem is just a game to you in your mind, why should you guess that your mind could be the prize?
The red-headed child – ah, that was a sweet yet sour taste. Strawberries,he’d told her, but not the ripe, full juiced berry she imagined – no, she tasted of the hard, bitter tang of the fruit before the sun has reached it. Power corroded by jealousy. He loved it.

I really love the language you used here. Great choice of words. I love the description of strawberries in the end and the part about people not realizing that their mind is the prize. Really well done.
