She wouldn’t admit it, but no matter how many degrees Maggie procured, how many papers she published in psychology journals, how many kudos she received from the vice president, the fear never really dissipated. She still smelled the blood from the sacrifices, still heard the chanting in demon languages full of guttural, slimy sounds, still felt the chill of hiding in the hall closet, looking through the crack at whatever other-worldly beast her father was dragging past her to the basement.

 

But now it was it was Professor Walsh. There was no demon and no man she could not subdue.
