“Sid Hutchins?”

Sid folds his paper with a sigh. He hates this P.I. crap but demon hunting pays jack. The woman framed by his office door is no Marlene Dietrich, just a tiny, nervous Asian girl. She’s probably here about a missing boyfriend or unfaithful husband, but something about her screams danger just the same. “I am Jisue,” she tells him. “I slay vampires and you hunt demons.” Sid shakes her hand, glad to be wrong.

Less than a year later, Jisue is dead and Sid is a wooden puppet. He was right about her being dangerous.
