PROMPT 007:

FREE FOR ALL: -ANY- MINOR CHARACTER

Additional Rules
1. Fiction and Icons can not have appeared at still_grrr before. You can have made them before, posted them elsewhere, just not here. They must be new to this community. This means if you did something with a minor character for prompts 001 and 002, you can't resuse it.
2. Minor characters from previous prompts are NOT eligible. (Merl, Mr. Universe, Snyder, Rack, Skip, Badger, Harriet, Sweet, YoSaffBridge, Clem, Phantom Dennis, Niska)
3. Minor characters do not have to be from television shows only! They can come from any books, comics, movies, video games, etc that are 'verse approved (ie Joss is making money off it. LOL)


ETA: Per the questions for the prompt: Joyce, Drusilla, Darla, Tara, Lindsey, Doyle are not going to be considered a minor characters for this. Jenny Calender, The Operative, Kate Lockley, Robin Wood, Eve, Harmony, Jesse, Buffybot, Dana will be. (That is who we have so far!) Minor characters can be paired with major characters as long as the minor character is a major part of the story. (A good example of this is the Beth story by smurfyfredels Any other questions, please, don't hesitate to ask. :)

This is how we defined minor character when we opened this prompt: Minor, is kind of something that is hard to decide. Some minor characters did get their names in the credits as a quick flyby name at the bottom of the screen. Saying no one that appeared in the title credits won't work because major characters like Drusilla were never in the title credits. So I will say that a minor character is a character who was not integral to the story, someone who's role wasn't so expansive within the context of the series. It is hard to pin down a number of episodes too. Because one or two lines in a ton of episodes might exlude people. So the best bet is for YOU to go with what you feel in your gut is minor.


Rules: Just keep in mind, icons and fic do not have to be new but they must have been written in the past year. Fic must be between 100-1000 words. Icons LJ standards. And must be posted in the community. Please make sure you do a header and fic under a cut. Starting April 1st, fiction that does not follow these guidelines, will not be up for voting.

Damn can't enter this i did a faith POV but that doesn't work, how about Lindsay when he kills the Buffy cast and Kate would that work, she is not in it long not even a paragraph but she is a minor character and yes i have written this story it was for some friends and it is more tongue in cheek

Well, what we are going for is that the focus of the story or icon is the minor character themself. So either their POV or they are one of the main characters in the piece. I am going to have to say that the two you mentioned probably aren't going to work for this particular challenge but keep them in mind. They might fit better for a future challenge.

Okay, Sarah and I talked it over and we are going to go with no on Joyce. Only because she was on for so long and she did have some really important parts to the story. She feels more major than minor, in our guts, if that makes sense.

BUT, I hope this won't discourage you from doing something. There are so many other greats to chose from. :)

You just post it like you were posting to your journal (or most other communities). For fiction, we ask that people use the header we provided. You can find it under the cut on this post or in the rules: http://community.livejournal.com/still_grrr/358.html Also in the rules, you will see that will take fics from 100-1000 words, rated G-R, and any pairings that are not incest pairings. (Sorry to fans of those!)

Icons, we ask that you post three and the rest under a cut. So if you have 7 icons, three go above, four below.

The challenge ends on Thursday at 11:59PST. Anything in before then is all gravy and taters.

Yes, ma'am. The Operative is considered a minor character. (At least according to the Wikipedia page, which is pretty much what we are going by. LOL)

Ruling on Illyria? She was only in 7 episodes, but she had an important role to play in those eps, so it's debatable.

My gut instinct to Illyria would be to call her a major character. Even though she was only on 7 episodes, they changed the credits to reflect her character and she was pretty instrumental to the storyline. Hope this doesn't keep you from participating though because we'd love to have you write something or make an icon or two.

You can still use them in a fic. It is just that the minor character has to be a major character in whatever you are planning to do. So for instance, if you want to write about Eve and Lindsey, if it is in Eve's point of view or the theme of the story skews more towards all about Eve (bad joke, I know) then that is totally cool. :)

Did I make sense with that? LOL Like for instance, smurfyfredels did a story with Beth and Tara where it was a really good insight into how Beth could have been. So that was totally awesome.

You can submit 10 fics AND 10 icons, for a total of 20 entries. But you can't mix and match. So like 15 icons, 5 fics. It is 10 for each. You can put them all into one entry with seperate headers and cuts or you can do them as individual entries. Whatever you like.

Just please make sure you use the header, keep it between 100-1000 words, G-R rating, and no incest, please. Other than that, it is up to your imagination. :)

Ha! I RP too. Usually Cordelia and Gunn but I have been known to do a whole host of others too when it is needed. So I know how that goes.

And yup, cross-overs, totally encouraged and loved. Sarah just wrote a hilarious one for this challenge that made me shoot milk out my nose.

Even though Doyle was only in 9 episodes, he was still pretty integral to the story. I am leaning towards no for him.

However, I hope this won't stop you from participating. There are a lot of other minor characters that need some love. And if you have one that has Doyle in it where a minor character is a major character, you can submit it. (Just not Harriet because she had her turn this month. LOL)

Buffybot and Dana are perfect examples of minor characters. As long as they have a major part in the story (and it fits the rest of the rules), feel free to submit it. The minor character should be the star, so to speak.
