The gun in his hand felt slick and oily. It was a once familiar, but now completely alien object in his hand.
Oh, he had made the glib remark about kneecaps, and in the time before, that would have been the macho thing to say. Today, it turned to ashes in his mouth.
It was funny, he reflected as he waited with Simon, how perspective changed as you grew older.
As a young man, the power had been in the metal and the fight. Today, the power was in the idea, the passion, and the white collar at his throat .
