Characters/Pairing: Mal, Jayne/Vera
A/N: written super quickly to go with my Jayne/Vera userpic. based on a conversation with a friend. Also the song is "So This is Love" from Disney's Cinderella.
Captain Mal Reynolds walked into the cargo bay and was greeted by a sight that was a whole rainbow of disturbing. He blinked hard and rubbed at his eyes, hoping that the image before him was simply a hallucination caused by some bad protein he’d eaten (that last bit had tasted a little funny), but no such luck. The vision stubbornly remained.
Mal just couldn’t believe it. There was his mercenary, big bad Jayne Cobb, singing… and dancing… with an overly fancy gun in his arms. This was just so very, very wrong.
“So this is love, Mmmmmm
So this is love
So this is what makes life divine…”
“Jayne Cobb what the hell are you doing!?”
Jayne turned and blinked very drunkenly at his captain. “’m dancin’ with my best girl. She likes t’ be taken out fer a spin every now an’ again.” He ran his hands over the gun, Vera, lovingly.
Mal’s mouth fell open. This just got more and more disturbing. “Jayne I can see that you are most obviously drunk, and I know its hard but could you please not act like a moon brain. Beginnin‘ to think that maybe what River’s got is catchin‘ from the way you‘s acting now.”
“I ain‘t crazy Mal.”
“Coulda fooled me” Mal mumbled under his breath, then louder “well could you at least take your… lady friend…” (He couldn’t believe he’d just said that) “somewhere else? Preferably where I can’t see, or hear you.”
“Aww Mal!”
“NOW!”
Jayne glared and stomped up the stairs toward his bunk, mumbling to the gun as he went, “Don’t you listen t’ the mean ol’ cap’n. He’ll be singin’ a diff’rnt tune when we save his ass again.”
“I won’t be singin’ nothing’!” Mal yelled after him.
But Jayne hadn’t heard him. He was too busy listening to the voice that his drunken mind gave Vera. “I know my Jayne. I won’t ever let you down.”
