The lights were hot upon my face as I stared out at the crowd. The kareoke machine was playing, and I was having a blast singing for the audience in front of me. But I was also singing for myself, letting the music buoy my spirit, making me smile as I reached the end of the song. I found myself blushing slightly as the applause echoed in my ears and I wanted to hold onto the moment, and the joy and peace it gave me. I stood there in the moment, until--
"You gotta get offstage, honey, I’ve got people waiting. Besides, I can’t read you if you don’t let the next person sing." I glanced over in Lorne’s direction and saw Angel standing next to him, which made me blush even redder than I had been. "Um, okay," I said, embarrassed.
As Angel started a very good attempt at a Barry Manilow tune, Lorne turned to me with a smile. "Nice set of pipes you’ve got there!"
Upon hearing that compliment, if the lights were hot upon my face before, it was nothing compared to the heat that rose in my cheeks at that moment.
