Prompt: 068: Free For All: Lenore
Characters/Pairing (if any): Lenore/Mr. Universe
She sat perfectly still, waiting.
The expression on her face was blank, void of personality or life, just like she was.
While he lived, she was his companion, a tool to keep away the loneliness as he sat around his screens and keyboards. He’d told her, told himself even, that she wasn’t a machine. He tried to prove it to himself by staging that marriage ceremony for the two of them. But she wasn’t fooled.
She knew she wasn’t like him, and she knew someday he’d see the truth too. It was strange, that he didn’t realize it until right before he died. He was always so intelligent, why didn’t he see that she was not like him, not entangled with feeling and emotion, much earlier?
Nevertheless, she saw in his eyes once he was run through and left to perish, that he now knew. He knew she was not his companion, but a machine, a tool to no longer keep away the loneliness, but to relay a vital message that could help change the worlds, all of them.
To him, she was always a heroine, but by conveying the last words to ever pass his lips to the man that now stood before her, she became a hero, in a small way, to many more.
