Angel’s dark eyes shone with regret as he sat beside the tiny woman lying in the bed. "We've tried almost everything and nothing works. Whatever this thing is that's trying to take over your body can't be stopped. That leaves us with only one other option. I don't even know if it'll work but I have to try." He hoped that at least his tone would convey what he couldn’t with words.

“Angel, I…”

Angel quickly placed his fingers against her lips. He already knew what she was about to say. “Don’t ask me to let you die, Fred. I’m sorry, I won’t let you slip away from me. Not without a damn good fight.”

This was the last thing he’d ever wanted to subject any of his friends to, especially Fred. But he didn’t have a choice. If he didn’t do something he was going to lose her. And he couldn’t let that happen.

“Please forgive me." he uttered just before his fangs pierced the tender skin of her neck.

Moments later Angel rearranged the blankets covering Fred’s lifeless body and with a soft kiss against her cheek he left the room.

"Harmony, get Willow. I don't care how you do it. Just get her here. NOW!" He ordered as he walked towards his office. Angel had to get away before the regret for what he’d done could consume him.

"What did you do?"

"What I had to do." Angel answered curtly before he slammed the door behind him. -

This was fantastic.

...both of them, I mean. The fic was scary, and sad at the same time. And the gorgeous, gorgeous picture, with The Little Princess quote and all... I loved it.
