Buffy raised her weapon and struck again and again and again. She’d fought some pretty tough opponents before, the Mayor, the Judge, those uber-vamp guys, but this thing? Its numbers were legion, they could survive a nuclear attack and they were everywhere.
“Ah, Buff?” Xander’s tentative voice came from behind her. “I think it’s dead.”
Buffy stood, rolled up newspaper poised at the ready, and inspected the smear that had once been a cockroach. “Oh. Yeah.” She tossed the ruined paper aside. “I just hate the damned things.”
