82 drabble - Remember
Title: Remember
Author: deird1
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Prompt: 082 (envy)
Character: Buffy
Remember
It had been kinda nice.
Being new, and innocent, and excited.
“I’m like a superhero or something!”
She’d staked, and fought, and led, and smiled – actually smiled! It’d felt so natural.
And even though she’d been a bit dumb (No, not dumb. Naïve.), she’d still managed to find a purpose.
“I kill your kind.”
Still managed to find an identity.
“I feel like a Joan.”
To find friends.
“Stay away from Randy!”
It had all seemed so clear.
Buffy sits, and wonders if it makes sense to be jealous of someone who never really existed.
Then she has another drink.

(Anonymous) 2008-09-10 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)this is a really beautiful, and effective piece of fanfic. Buffy's only moments of 'real' happiness on the show were when she was Joan, so it's entirely appropriate that there would be a little jealously - and a lot of melancholic reflection too.
I've just seen French movie about a boy who kept on imagining an 'invisible' brother - who turned out to have been real, in the sense that he'd been killed by the nazis before he'd been born.
'Joan' was the Buffy that she wished she could be, but never let herself be - if that makes sense.
Lovely, and a pleasure to read,
Ray (kerkevik@btinternet.com)
