“Travers, I’m not sure young Rupert’s our sort.” The old man was quivering with distaste.

“What’s up, Ludovic?” Travers loved to call the old guard by their first names. It infuriated them he was in charge now.

“He’s got some newfangled portable wireless. He calls me Ludo. And he wears leather, not a proper corduroy. His father-“

Travers had heard that one too often, “Was one of the biggest rebels we’ve had. Besides, Ludo, it does us good to become a little more modern. I’m going to drag the Council kicking and screaming into the twentieth century.”

It was 1983.

It's nice to find out Travers once had a bit of the rebel in him, too. This made me laugh: Travers loved to call the old guard by their first names. It infuriated them he was in charge now. Then co-opting the hated nickname made me laugh even harder. Nice job.
