"We still spark."
She was unsure. She really didn't know if he still loved her. "I mean, I get jealous of you. You get jealous of me. You still love me." She was going for strong and defiant, but it came out desperate and covered in fear. Xander looked away, and Anya cursed her former human heart, her demon heart, and her current demon heart for loving this man.
It was ridiculous, incredulous, even, she thought. Xander was a carpenter that had beady eyes, was a bit of a fraidy cat (She remembered the time he was scared of a mouse in his old basement and she giggled invardly before returning to her mental reasoning) he even left her at the altar, and somehow she still wanted him. Still craved the gaze of his beady little eyes on her lips, the small fond kisses he gave to the top of her head, and even the way he told her to be quiet. Anya huffed a little in her chair. Her heart was a traitor. If her heart were a man, she'd have turned it into a worm demon by now. A small lightbulb look crossed her features happily before it fell and she mumbled "nah" in conclusion.
Xander hadn't noticed. This all made him uncomfortable. /he didn't want to talk about this, especially not to Andrew. Of course he still loved her! things were just...more complicated than that. He heard his inner Willow say "complicated? really xander?" and he sighed in defeat.

"Yes. I still love you. I always will. I just don't know if that means anything for us anymore." Xander spat.

"Well, I love you too. I don't know if that means anything either."

"Well, it's nice to hear. I'm not gonna find anyone out there like you, am I?"

"Doesn't seem likely" Anya smiled a gentle sated smile.

"You can still... find me, you know" She ventured. "I mean, I know things are.. Whatever it is that they are, but I'm still here, and if I'm so great, you still have a shot." Anya'd always been bad at rambling and this was no exception whatsoever. She bit her lip knowing he was going to backpeddal as fast as possible.
but, much to her surprise, he didn't.
"a shot, huh? sounds like the odds are low, but, I do love a challenge" His grin was more boyish and mischievious than any he'd worn in years. And at this, Anya's insides twisted, in the good way.
"It" *kiss* "could" *kiss* "take" *kiss* days" Anya managed to get out.
"oh, I'm counting on it.-" He started before his face got more serious and Anya suddered with the knowledge of his regret. "Ahn, I love you, but are we doing this for real? are we going back into it all just like this?" Anya looked at him with big tear shined eyes and he had his answer. He kissed her with certainty and joy and with complete faith that it would be alright.

And they went back into it just like that.
And Anya's first human heart, her demon heart, and her current, fast-beating, over-exerted,human heart all soared.
