Title Seasonally Appropriate
Author Brutti ma Buoni
Rating PG
Word Count 200
Prompt 147 (January – New Year’s Day)
Characters/Pairing (if any) Buffy, Spike, Giles, Xander
A/N: This is post-series, and is set in 2003-04 in my Rulesverse. But you don’t need any of that context to understand this, except maybe to know everyone is at the Scottish castle, as in the comics, but including Spike.
“Happy New Year guys!”
“Huuuhhhhwwhh...”
“Uh?”
“SHHHhhh!”
Buffy stood over her three musketeers, considering the spectacle they made. Xander was still on a chair, but his feet were over the arm and his head on the seat. Spike hadn’t been on a chair to start with, and had collapsed reasonably neatly onto the rug, albeit with a bottle of whisky tipped across his jeans leaving an embarrassing damp patch. Giles, though, had slid off the couch and landed with his head almost concealed behind the arm. What was visible of his body looked worryingly rumpled in an un-Giles-ish fashion.
There was a moment when Buffy might have been compassionate. But then her nose put in a vote, pointing out how foul the room had become during their celebratory late-night Guy Time. She walked over to the window, opened the drapes and then flung the casement wide.
All three men flinched. An observer might have had trouble identifying which of them was the solar-sensitive vampire, given the remarkable speed with which they all moved out of its range.
Buffy grinned a terrible grin. “So, now you’ve seen the New Year in in style, who’s up for a nice long country walk? I hear it’s another great British tradition.”
It turned out Spike was conscious enough to chuck a boot at her. But not conscious enough to hit. So, on the whole, it was still a happy new year.
