Word Count: 352
Prompt: 150(November 25th Thanksgiving)
Characters/Pairing: Fred
Fred silently scraped another notch on the cave wall next to her sleeping pallet, just like she’d done every day since she arrived in this dimension. She wasn't sure why but there was something about this day that nagged at her brain. It drove her crazy that she couldn't remember what it was. But she couldn't remember a lot of things these days.
Sometimes she wondered why this had happened to her. But then she would stop and chide herself for wishing someone could take her place. Because that was the way the world worked wasn't it? In order for one to be happy, someone had to be unhappy. And one was never supposed to wish their bad days on someone else. Or at least that was what her...someone.. had always told her.
Slowly she walked over to where her meal sat beside the small pool. She gently stirred the mixture inside the wooden bowl before taking a tentative bite. Hmmm..cruggrain and thistles.. not bad but it needed more Kalla berries.
After sprinkling a liberal amount of berries into the bowl Fred took another bite of the concoction. It didn't taste much like a Thanksgiving...that was it! She felt like shouting as the word finally came to her. She quickly glanced over at the marks on the wall. If her calculations were right it was Thanksgiving. In that other place. The one that wasn't here.
It had been so long since she had remembered that word that she was shocked as the memories of tastes assailed her. There would be turkey with all the fixings, and there would even be cakes and pies. Her mouth actually watered. She would give anything to just have one taste of...
Fred quickly stopped herself. There was no sense in wishing for something that was never going to happen. She would just have to make do with her meal of cruggain and thistles, mixed with berries; and not think about what she could be eating instead or even where she could be. It shouldn't be too hard. After all she'd become a pro at making do.
