Faith is jealous of Buffy and her life and when Faith came to Sunnydale, Buffy seemed so ungrateful about everything. I think that sometimes, Faith wished that she could have the supportive mother, the awesome friends, and more of what Buffy had. Faith, despite appearing so self-assured, also needed to hear sometimes that she mattered.

Faith gets the attitude that she can do anything because she's the slayer, she's better than everyone else.

After she accidentally kills someone, Buffy is horrified by what Faith has done and in Faith's mind, turns against her.
