182 Ficlet: Family Unties (Willow/Tara)

Prompt 182 – BtVS season 5, following on from ‘Family’
Characters/Pairing (if any) Willow/Tara
A/N: Also for the Mundane Bingo prompt ‘waiting for a delivery at home’
Tara was singing. Willow could hear it even through the door. Singing was of the good, especially Tara-singing, which managed to be tuneful as well as happy.
So, presumably, her nose wasn’t too squished from Spike’s Definitely Not A Demon test. Empirical, but also smooshy. Willow did not approve of the hurting-Tara aspect of Spike’s methods. But remembering the way Tara had smiled after he hit her, Willow was prepared to let it pass this once.
“Hi baby,” she said, almost before she’d got into Tara’s room. “You sound joyous. I like!”
Tara was smiling almost too wide to kiss properly. Almost. Willow had patience for important stuff like that.
After a pause, “It feels like I’m new and shiny and lighter, maybe a little like I don’t know myself and-”
Whoa. Tara-babble? Unprecedented. Also cute.
Willow enjoyed the flowing words as they ran on, not needing to focus too hard on the bubbling stream of consciousness. Would it have been so bad if Tara had been part-demon? Maybe not for Willow, but for Tara it was plainly the biggest deal imaginable.
Mr Maclay deserves pain. Snakes and knives and seas of blood- but Tara wouldn’t like it, so Willow dropped the agonising revenge plans and paid attention to her girl again.
“You want to do a spell to celebrate? Something pretty – maybe that entwining enchantment you told me about at the Bronze? Though we better be careful, don’t wanna twine so much we need Buffy or someone to haul us apart. That’s a call I especially don’t want to make to Giles. Ever.”
Tara was shaking her head, though. “There’s a delivery guy coming soon. Better not get too magical just now.”
“Something important? I thought you got those Japanese ingredients already?”
“No. Nothing important. Just my stuff from home.”
“There was stuff?” Of course there was. Not like Tara took her every worldly possession to college.
“Some stuff. Really not important. Dad wants it all gone now.”
They should have been bleak words.
Instead, Tara looked like a woman released.

I'll go with the Awwfff! thang, but there's a nice (as in the original definition of very precise)ly delivered, at least it seems so to my ears (and I COULD hear the character's voices as I was reading)line

because over the years, having experienced people I care about in that kind of relationship, there was something dark, and slightly abusive, in Willow's growing treatment of Tara as Season 5 came to it's conclusion, which came to it's terrible realisation during and after OMWF.
That taste of what was to come does nothing to take away from the happiness that I can feel in the way you've written Tara here though.
Marvellous and bittersweet, and I wonder at the appropriateness of listening to a largely acoustic cover of New Order's Blue Monday by someone I'd not heard of before, Hannah Peel (just hunted down a link to a YouTube vid version - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aeob-f9ea6U - so that you can check it out for yourself, and see what I mean).
