As Angel left his words hung heavily in the room. She wanted to run after him and hug him but she knew better than to leave Eve unguarded. Harmony quickly closed her eyes as she folded her hands together in supplication. She hoped she was doing this right, she'd never had to pray before, everything she had ever wanted had usually fell into her lap. Except for this. The no human blood policy at Wolfram and Hart had seriously hampered her lifestyle to the point where it was all she could think about. Night and day. It even invaded her sleep. She hadn’t had human blood in so long she was sure she had forgotten how it tasted. The warm, sweet, delicious flavor, coating her throat as it warmed her insides. Harmony shook her head quickly. Nope, she still remembered. A soft, longing filled sigh escaped her.
Her blonde hair fell over her shoulder as she bowed her head and began to pray. Oh please, please, please! Make her move! Even just a little. I’m not asking for much, a pinky movement will do. The words were a litany in her mind. She just hoped that whatever deity was listening would grant her prayer. She felt as if she deserved it. After all she had been a good girl, okay, well almost, unless you count the high school years and after she had become a vampire. But honestly that shouldn’t count against her. The high school years were just a compliment to her wealth and beauty; she wasn’t responsible for how others acted around her because of it. And becoming a vampire wasn’t her idea at all so it shouldn’t be held against her. Besides she wanted this with every fiber of her being. And wasn’t that the most important thing?
Eve tried not to interrupt, the less time Harmony looked at her as if she was her next meal was better for her nerves, but finally curiosity got the better of her and the question slipped out before she could stop it. "What are you doing?"
"Praying." Harmony didn't bother to open her eyes as she answered.
A shocked expression crossed Eve's face at the vampire’s words. Over the years she had thought she'd heard of everything, especially working for Wolfram and Hart but this took the cake. "But you're a vampire." That’s right, Eve, that’s just what you should be bringing up.
Harmony tossed her blonde hair over her shoulder as she finally opened her eyes and stared at Eve. "So."
From everything she had ever learned from Wolfram and Hart on the subject she knew that vampires and religion didn’t mix. "What could you possibly want that would make you pray?"
Harmony stared pointedly at Eve's jugular before she closed her eyes once more in prayer.
"Oh." Eve managed to resist the urge to cover her neck with both hands. Just barely.
Suddenly, Harmony opened her eyes and looked at the other woman hopefully. "I don't suppose you'd want to stretch your legs, go for a walk or maybe even a run?"
Was she serious? One look at the hopeful expression on her face answered that question. Eve shook her head emphatically. "No."
"Damn. This is taking too long." Another sigh escaped her this one louder than the first before she closed her eyes again.
Eve wanted to retaliate with a sarcastic 'I feel your pain' but she felt that just this once staying silent was the prudent thing to do.
