It waits. It has nothing else to do. The Well is nothingness, but it is aware.
It waits for the QwaHaXahn to call. It waits for the hole in the world that will be opened.
It waits through centuries. The first millennium is painful. The second drags. By the third, the tedium is grinding. By the hundredth, it is almost resigned to the agony of solitude and inaction. By the three hundredth, it is mad.
It waits till the three hundred and forty fifth millennium, when the hole in the world opens, and Illyria escapes. It has been too long.

Ooh. I suppose the world is lucky that the GodKing was as coherent as she/he/it was. Did the powerful intellect of the shell have more influence that anyone thought? Fred had crawled out of the pit of crazy before, after all, and so presumably knew the way.
