"Xander… I know we all have to help out with the no-Buffy situation."
"Yes, Anya." In his endless quest to learn how best to deal with his fiancée, Xander was currently experimenting with keeping his answers very short. It tended to get him into less trouble. Yes, Anya was pretty much infallible so far.
"And I know there's this whole fairytales are real thing going on right now."
"Mhm." That should be safe.
"And I'm totally prepared to pretend to be Little Red Riding Hood in a good cause, while Willow works out how to fix the fairytale spell, thus saving other Sunnydalers from a wolfy death, though not actually from losing their grandmothers. Even if this fairytale makes remarkably little sense in its modern version, now the ogres and the cannibalism have all been whitewashed away. I mean, how short-sighted is that child? It's a wolf in a nightcap, for cripes' sake!"
"Yuh." She'd mentioned this story critique before, in a variety of ways. Cannibalising the grandmother was kind of bad news, and changed the way Xander viewed the story. But at least it hadn't happened this time. Mrs Beattie had only been eaten by the wolf, just the way it should be in Xander's world. (Uhh. There was a problem with that thought somewhere.)
"But that doesn't matter right now. You came to my rescue right on schedule and I'm planning to be suitably grateful later tonight."
"Yay?" Because Anya looked more doubtful than she usually did when promising sex.
Sure enough, she started the next sentence with "But…"
"But what?"
"But the woodcutter outfit? Has to go. Especially the hat."
"Yes, Anya." It was the little green feather, wasn't it?
